Safety Responsibilities

Do you know what your employee's safety responsibilities are?
Everyone in the workplace shares in safety responsibility. We all have rights, and these are balanced by responsibilities to one another.
Employers are obliged to provide a safe workplace, not expose workers to undue risks, and not request them to perform unsafe acts.

As well, your employee's have these rights:
The right to see copies of all standards, rules and regulations;
The right to know possible hazards in your workplace and how to protect yourself from these hazards;
You are entitled to see Exposure and Medical Records;
You have the right to report workplace hazards;
You may not be discriminated against for exercising your right.

And with these rights come these responsibilities

As an employer you can, and must insist that all workers comply with all applicable occupational safety and health standards and rules.

In general your employee's must:
Follow all appropriate safety rules and health regulations;
Wear or use prescribed protective equipment;
Report hazardous conditions;
Not perform any act that might endanger other workers or others nearby;
Report any job related injury or illness, and seek prompt treatment;
Cooperate with compliance officers conducting an inspection.

Safety Responsibility begins and ends with Teamwork
Safety improves when everyone works responsibly and even more so when everyone watches out for each other. Let's all promise to watch out for one another.

Safety Responsibility means never letting your guard down

Most people don't believe they are at risk for personal injury. Yet studies of lost time injuries and deaths show over and over again that most are caused by human error. Believe that injuries can happen to anyone - if your workers do not work safely all the time. Each of us can help to keep the workplace safer.

So Take safety responsibility seriously - avoid safety short-cuts, obey safety rules, and watch that your employee's follow them to.
